Caddo Magnet High School's Student Government Association, most commonly called SGA, is a collection of students who are elected by their peers. SGA is an eclectic group that mirrors the awesome diversity of Magnet. The Senate is composed of officers (President, Vice
President, Secretary and Historian), four senators-at-large elected by the student body and one senator for every twenty-five members of each class.
Freshman elections are held in the fall, usually about 2 weeks after the beginning of the school year. Sophomore, Junior and Senior elections for the next school year are held at the end of April. Students have a week to campaign with signs, buttons, flyers, and old-fashioned handshaking. Once elected, students attend SGA meetings on the first Wednesday of each month during Activity Period.
SGA is much more than mere politics. Our main goals are to represent Magnet and to serve our fellow students. Each year the SGA is responsible for the freshman orientation day called "Great Expectations." A theme for this event is chosen the previous year, and students spend the summer planning and practicing. Many SGA members say this is their favorite event. SGA also hosts the Back-to-School Dance, spirit rallies, annual blood drive (17 yrs. & older w/parental permission), volunteering at area 5K races, the Senior Citizens Prom at the Glen Retirement Home and various other service projects throughout the year.
