CMHS Orchestra Program consists of two orchestras. The Chamber Orchestra boasts 40 students and the String Orchestra, 30. The latter is our training group, while the Chamber consists of the top performers. September brings auditions for the Louisiana All-State Orchestra. For many years the CMHS Orchestra Program sends the highest number of students from any one school to All-State Orchestra rehearsals and performances in Baton Rouge where a concert is performed the weekend before Thanksgiving. Students who are Chamber members have the opportunity to audition for the prestigious Concerto Competition.
The orchestras join Magnet Concert and Jazz Bands and Choir in joint performances to include school events such as National Honor Society Induction, Talent Shows and outside of school for special occasions, even weddings. Over the past 27 years the Magnet High Orchestra has performed at Carnegie Hall, Rome and Florence, Italy, The Sydney Opera House in Australia, the World's Fair in New Orleans and all over the U.S.
