The purpose of BSA is to promote an interest in, growth of, and appreciation for African-American culture and contributions. The club is open to any CMHS student with an interest. The main event is an annual formal program at Magnet during Black History Month, highlighting achievements, contributions, and talents of African-Americans. Members do participate in area parades, especially the Black History Month Parade. There is an emphasis on public service, with members volunteering various services around the city and parish. These may include tutoring, visiting nursing homes, reading to younger children, etc. Dues are $15 per school year. Meetings are scheduled as needed.
